The role
of VolunteerThe
orphanage requires extra pairs of hands to help with the day-to-day
running of the project, so you will be expected to assist with cleaning,
cooking and serving food to the children. You will also help to
provide a basic education for the children, by organizing Physical
Education / Sports lessons and teaching English. You may also be
required to assist the staff in counseling the children. In some
occasions volunteers teach English in a school where volunteers
go for education,
Skills/Qualifications
Needed There
are no specific qualifications required for the orphanage project
in Ghana . However, volunteers interested to work for orphans must
have love for the kids and willingness to share their time and compassion
with patience and high flexibility.
Room/Food/Supervision
WvGhana arranges room, food, and supervision for volunteer from
the start to the end of program. During first, week of language
and cultural program, volunteers stay in our hostel or with host
family in Kumasi . Our host family in Kumasi is located around the
suburb of the city also giving easy access to volunteer to all part
of Ashanti Region. Our host family cooks Ghanaian foods which include
Fufu, Fried plantain and Yam for you. As a part of language and
cultural program, you will also learn how to cook Ghanaian food.
During volunteering period, volunteers stay in host family. However,
a volunteer joining the orphanage project will stay with kids in
the hostel. We arrange a separate room and shared bath for volunteers
both in host family and hostel. You can find the details of arrangement
for room/food in placement sheets. WvGhana have Coordinator and
Staffs in Ghana to supervise and help volunteers. However, volunteers
working far from our local office will have regular contact through
email and over the telephone.
